Hey everyone! Welcome to The Upper Room Studios Podcast. Today we're talking about something that might sound super churchy, but I promise it's actually about something you deal with every single day: how you show up in relationships, how honest you are with yourself, and what it really means to be part of a community. We're going to look at what the Apostle Paul wrote to a church that was kind of a mess—the church in Corinth. They had drama, cliques, people showing off, and honestly? It sounds a lot like high school sometimes. But Paul's message to them is powerful for us today. SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Corinthians 11:27-34 Let me read our main passage. This is 1 Corinthians 11:27-34: "So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world. So then, my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat, wait for each other. Anyone who is hungry should eat something at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment." Now, let's break this down in a way that actually makes sense for your life. POINT 1: EXAMINE YOURSELVES CONCERNING CHRIST POINT 2: JUDGE YOURSELVES IN DISCERNING THE CHURCH POINT 3: HOW WE SHOULD FEAR THE LORD IN THE CHURCH CONCLUSION: COMING TO THE TABLE WITH OPEN HEARTS Coming to the table with open hearts means: Being honest with yourself about where you really are with Jesus. No more fake spirituality. No more pretending. Bring your real self to Him. Seeing and loving the people around you as part of God's family. Stop the cliques. Stop the gossip. Start treating every person as someone Jesus loves. Taking your faith seriously. God isn't your cosmic vending machine. He's the Creator of the universe who loves you enough to tell you the truth and correct you when you're heading the wrong way. When we come to communion—or when we come together as the church—we're not just going through a ritual. We're declaring that we belong to Jesus and to each other. We're saying our lives are connected, our stories are intertwined, and we're going to love each other the way Jesus loved us. That's what it means to come to the table with open hearts. So this week, I challenge you: Take 5 minutes to really examine your heart. Find one person to intentionally love and include. Ask God to give you holy respect for Him and His church. #jesuschrist #biblestudy #youthbiblestudy
