This film follows Franz-Albrecht on a day's driven hunting from the beginging to the end of a long drive. Franz is joined to hunt wild boar, fallow deer and roe deer alongside friend and hunting companion Nicolaus. The day begins in heavy morning mist as shots are already echoing through the forest before the dogs are released — a clear sign that game is still moving from the night. Franz takes his stand with a rare quadruple (four)-barrelled rifle, built specifically for driven hunting, while Nicolaus covers a neighbouring stand where animals can appear from any direction. Throughout the drive, both hunters face the realities of tight shooting lanes, thick undergrowth, changing wind and dogs working close to the game. Several wild boar pass through at speed, some too close to the dogs to allow a safe shot, others disappearing back into cover at the last moment. Decisions are made in seconds — and just as often, shots are deliberately not taken. This hunt is not about numbers. It’s about: Managing wild boar groups as they split and reform in dense cover Staying disciplined around dogs and beaters Reading wind direction and distance on difficult stands Tracking shots and impact points during the drive Selecting the right animals to meet quota and age-class objectives A particularly rare moment unfolds when a known, old fallow buck, recognised from previous seasons, unexpectedly crosses Franz’s stand during the drive, a chance encounter that only happens once in many years of driven hunting. Between shots, Franz and Nicolaus explain exactly why certain animals are taken, why others are passed, and how stand design, forest growth and visibility directly affect safety and shot choice. The film ends with the careful recovery of game and a reflection on how a successful drive allows the forest to settle and return to normal. This is real European driven hunting, demanding, unpredictable and deeply rooted in responsibility, restraint and respect for the game.
