A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. This particular segment aired during the Countdown episode which originally aired on February 8, 1981, on the ABC. This clip features an interview of legendary Australian country music singer Slim Dusty conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum in studio, straight after his performance of his hit single 'Duncan'. The interview begins with Molly's amazement of Slim's performance on Countdown, as it being a teen-oriented pop music show, it was not Slim's usual forum. They then discuss his successes over his career, going back to his first major hit single, 'A Pub With No Beer' in 1957. The interview ends with Molly inviting one of the members of the Countdown audience to present Slim with a gold record for 'Duncan', from which they then lead into The Swingers single 'Counting The Beat'. Vaxfacts: Slim Dusty was one of Australia's most accomplished and successful musicians, having recorded over 100 albums, and received more gold and platinum albums than any Australian artist. Slim Dusty also had the honour of having his rendition of 'Waltzing Matilda' broadcast from the maiden flight of the space shuttle Columbia (STS-1- April 10-12, 1981) as it passed over Australia- a mere two months after this performance first aired.
