Authorities in Serbia have detained at least two suspects connected to the murder of the paramilitary leader. According to Serbian papers on Thursday, they're now searching for the man believed to have lead the assassins. There was a crowd of thousands of onlookers and mourners outside Belgrade's main cemetery on Thursday as Arkan, who became notorious for his alleged war crimes in Croatia and Bosnia, was buried. Four members of Arkan's paramilitary unit Tigers, dressed in camouflage uniforms and red berets were standing honour guard at the coffin. Arkan's wife and son and the crowd of mourners followed the hearse carrying Arkan's coffin to the burial site. Borislav Pelevic, the best man at Arkan's wedding spoke briefly at the service, followed by Arkan's son Mihaijlo, who said "may he rest in peace." Members of Arkan's paramilitary guard fired a gun salute as his coffin was lowered to the ground. Arkan, whose real name was Zeljko Raznatovic, was shot at the Belgrade's Intercontinental hotel on Saturday. Rumours are still circulating about who was responsible for Arkan's murder. There's speculation about the possible role of President Slobodan Milosevic's government. Both Arkan and Milosevic were indicted by the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague for atrocities committed during wars in the former Yugoslavia. Some observers believe Arkan may have been prepared to do business with the tribunal. The latest newspaper reports, all citing unnamed police sources, said the investigation is making progress thanks to "confessions" from one of the assassins who was seriously wounded in the attack and is recovering under maximum security. There are also reports that in addition to the wounded suspect, Dusan Gavric, the police have also arrested an accomplice at the northern border with Hungary when he tried to leave the country.
