We have a 28 year old male with no past medical history who came into the emergency department with right knee pain x 1 day. He was playing tackle football when he was hit from behind and fell on his right knee. Initially he had no pain, but two hours after the injury, he developed right knee pain and swelling. So, I was called down for a consult, and saw the patient in the emergency department. We'll be describing in detail how I examined this patient and my thought process behind the exam. Then, I order an AP, lateral, and sunrise view and I see lucency in the superior/lateral aspect of the patella. But, based on his exam, things aren't adding up.
