The name Elizabeth Gould might be unfamiliar to many, but working alongside her husband John Gould, her artistic skill and aptitude helped break the mould of bird illustration in the nineteenth century. Due to her early death, and, perhaps overshadowed by her husband’s status, the significant contribution to and the scientific and artistic legacy she made to this area of visual art has not always been recognised. Join Andrea Hart, Library Special Collections Manager at the Natural History Museum, to learn more about Elizabeth’s story, art and forgotten legacy and examine some of the magnificent books she contributed to that are preserved in the Linnean Society’s Library. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Linnean Society works to inform, involve and inspire people of all ages about nature and its wider interactions through our collections, programmes and publications. Founded in 1788, the Society takes its name from the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778). https://www.linnean.org Follow us on social media: / linneansociety / linneansociety / linneansociety
