The Hungarian National Choir has announced a master class in choral conducting for young choirmasters. The professors teaching the master class were Gary Graden, choirmaster of the St. Jacobs Kirche in Stockholm, and Csaba Somos, choirmaster of the Hungarian National Choir. The six young conductors selected from among the applicants for the course – artists from England, Poland, Spain and Hungary – have all already launched their careers, leading ensembles small and large, and many have also had successful showings in competitions. This course, which started on 27 February 2022, focused primarily on contemporary a cappella works, meaning ones from the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Representing earlier eras were classic works from the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, by Jozef Rheinberger and Frank Martin, respectively. The most exciting part of the evening was in the second half, which featured the Hungarian premières of works by composers from Northern Europe performed under the authentic direction of the teacher of the master class, Gary Graden. 06. 03. 2022 – The programme of the closing concert: Rheinberger: Mass in E-flat major, Op. 109 – Kyrie, Gloria Zoltán Kovács: Ave Maria Eric Whitacre: Sainte-Chapelle Bo Hansson: Credo Martin: Mass for Double Choir – Sanctus Michael Waldenby: Five Latin Motets – 5.
