The gameplay is based around smooth momentum-driven physics, where players destroy incoming waves of enemies that drop a cosmic dust. This dust can then be collected and used to unlock five ships, five pilots, and five weapons. Ships and weapons have different trade-offs, whilst pilots each offer a unique ability, such as shields, teleportation, or dropping mines. The gameplay loop of avoiding bullets, shooting enemies and collecting dust is cleanly executed, and it has an interesting system where the ship health and weapon power are linked in a regenerating energy bar. As you shoot, the energy bar goes down, and you can take less damage, so it forces evasive actions where you can't just shoot your way out of problems. The controls are responsive, and reward skillful movement and precise shooting, and as the waves increase, the game shifts more towards a bullet hell. However, Super Space Club is extremely light on content. There is no story, no exploration, or any long-term progression system. Missions exist, but only offer minor playstyle suggestions, without meaningful rewards. Unlockables provide different trade-offs rather than upgrades, meaning your twentieth run will feel similar to your first. Enemy variety is minimal too, with very simple attack patterns. They are also quite tanky, making weapons feel underpowered. Overall, Super Space Club is an enjoyable and well-crafted arcade experience, and perfect for short sessions, but it lacks the depth, progression, and meaningful variety to sustain longer-term engagement. While the vibrant soundtrack, fluid visuals and controls are all highly polished, the actual gameplay is shallow and highly repetitive, and after a few short hours, you will have seen everything the game offers. It is a good game, but the €15 price tag feels difficult to justify.
