Scottish fiddle player, Paul Anderson, performing the James Scott Skinner compositions "Shakins o' the Pocky" and "Madam Neruda". This was on Saturday 4th February 2023 when Paul was performing at the Aberdeen Arms in Tarland to raise funds for the Scott Skinner monument project in Banchory. Shakins o' the Pocky (shakings of the pocket) was composed with another famous Scottish composer Peter Milne, after they both had to empty their pockets of change in a bar to find enough to buy one drink (dram of Whisky) between them. James 'Scott' Skinner was born on 5 August 1843 at Arbeadie Village in the Parish of Banchory-Ternan. He is considered one of the most influential fiddlers in Scottish traditional music and came to be known as the 'Strathspey King'. Skinner died in 1927 but his music lives on and Paul is leading efforts to raise funds for a bronze life-size statue in his hometown of Banchory, to ensure he is remembered by his fellow musicians and admirers for years to come.
