The Ferrari 512 BB, commonly known as the Boxer, was Ferraris first mid engined V12 production car. Enzo Ferrari was very unwilling to make a 12 cylinder street car because he believed it was too powerful for his customers to handle. However after many other competing companies such as Lamborghini introduced the Miura, or De Tomaso introduced the Pantera, Enzo was forced to change his mind and allow his engineers to produce the Boxer. There is a lot of controversy over the name boxer, seeing as its really not a boxer engine at all but rather a flat 180 degree 12 cylinder. But even with the arguments over the name, the vast majority of car enthusiasts still lovingly refer to the 512BB as the boxer. Even Ferrari has agreed to the name, which, much like the Daytona was adopted by the masses rather than given to the car by its creator. This Ferrari 512 BB is a carbureted example, meaning it is the most powerful and best sounding of the entire boxer series. It has iconic styling that has withstood the test of time and is one of the Ferraris that enthusiasts world wide can recognize at a glance, even among the younger crowds.
