I didn't see a lot on You Tube about repairing metal fences so after a bit of research and practice, I thought I'd make and post this video. I'm going panel by panel as I repair the rusted fence in my backyard. Each panel takes about 5 hours to refurbish. I do one or two a week. I think I'm on panel #6 in this video. The fence is made from 1.5" x .060 square tube on the top and bottom. The Pickets are 5/8" x .060 square tube. The 2" square posts were not rusted (I think they're galvanized). This is the 3rd welding project I've done after buying a simple welder on Amazon last year. Tooliom TL-200M using solid .030 wire and C-25 shielding gas. Please leave a comment with your suggestions on how to do different parts better. I'm always learning. 00:00 Intro 01:33 Setup 02:10 Grinding off the rusted bottom tube 02:57 Grinding off paint and rust at the end of each picket 03:10 Wire Wheel for the end of each picket 04:09 Cutting off the bottom of a rusted picket 04:55 Prepping & cutting the bottom steel tube 07:08 Fitting up the bottom tube 08:11 The welder 09:38 Tacking the ends 10:19 Pulling the middle into shape 11:49 Found another picket that needs to be replaced 12:59 Using my homemade picket forming press 14:06 replacing a couple of pickets 14:43 More novice welding 18:17 Rust reformer and metal primer 19:18 Final look at the day's work 20:02 Time Lapse of the day 20:20 finished results after final painting
