"Apart from their various dimensions, many carbide burrs also offer different options for cut types. With the HF A from RHODIUS, these cut types include a double cut (Z6 or Z7), a single cut (Z3) and an aluminium cut (Z Alu). So why do we need a carbide burr with this special ‘aluminium cut’? Aluminium and other non-ferrous metals – which include copper, brass and bronze – are much softer than steel and stainless steel. This soft consistency means that these metals tend to ‘squash up’ when worked on with an abrasive tool. As a result, working on aluminium tends to slowly clog up the kind of fine double cut that would ensure perfect results and high stock removal on stainless steel or steel – and milling performance would be much worse. So this is why we also offer the RHODIUS HF A TOP with an aluminium cut (Z Alu). This cut uses a different cutting geometry with larger teeth, so as to reduce material deposition in the chip spaces and maintain good stock removal performance. In our carbide burr head-to-head video, we show you how the RHODIUS HF A ALPHA with a double cut (Z7) and the HF A TOP with an aluminium cut (Z Alu) do when faced with an aluminium workpiece (AW 6060 = AlMgSi0.5)."
