In this video, I make my first attempt at doing a detail room-by-room heat loss on my own house using a tool called HeatPunk! At the beginning, I found this tool really frustrating to use, mostly due to the lack of undo behaviour, but as time went on, I found myself getting more proficient. The heat loss figure was initially way about my own measured values, coming in at over 8.5kW to start with, but once I played with the ACH values, it dropped down under 6.5kW. Give my own whole house heat loss calculations ( • Performing a simple heat loss calcula... ) and my empirical measurements ( • Measuring my home's heat loss using a... ), I reckon the real figure is somewhere in between. I did like the heat pump selection screens at the end. The Vaillant aroTHERM is looking increasingly like the heat pump for me as it has the grunt required to heat the house and also offers cooling. The 5kW also might be large enough given the whole house figure, but I'm not sure I can handle the lower flow temp. Next video in this series will see me add the existing radiators to this and seeing if they are sized correctly. You can visit the HeatPunk website over at https://heatpunk.co.uk/ This is order I expect to do things in: Checking my existing pipework [ • Is my existing pipework suitable for ... ] Doing a simple heat loss survey for my house [ • Performing a simple heat loss calcula... ] Doing a room-by-room heat loss survey [this video]. Working out what radiators need to change. Checking pressure loss in my existing pipework. Checking noise levels at proposed site. Getting planning permission Picking a heat pump.
