This talk by Ajahn Kovido is about how to develop clear comprehension by seeing the intrinsic qualities of everything that arises in the mind and not hold on to them. Transcript of this talk is available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1O... These are the qualities of all dhamma that we need to see: 1. “Two-Causes” (of stress): Any stress we feel is due to holding onto a craving or view (of things, people, or means). Investigation of this directs our heart to see what we have been holding onto that causes stress. That holding onto (attachment/ upādāna) is the cause of suffering. When our heart constantly sees that attachment is the cause of stress, it will begin to fear attaching itself to any dhamma. 2. “Cravings”: All cravings and feelings arise due to a cause. That cause is contact with a mental-identikit of a sense object, be they visual, audio, scent, taste, touch or mental objects. Recollecting this with all dhamma that arises reminds the heart that all processes and activities arise due to dependently originated causes and not from an actor (self /“Atta”) within. Every time a craving or feeling arises, we need to look for the contact with a mental Identikit that causes it. 3. “Mental-Identikits”: All things that we come to know are “Anatta”, i.e. they don't have an intrinsic real essence. We "makeup" what they are, and they are just “sañña”, i.e. perceptions that are created by the mind. They exist in our mind and are projected back onto the world of sensed objects we encounter later. 4. “Not sure”: All dhamma that arises are empty of any intrinsic essence (Anatta). All dhamma that arises are uncertain to stay the same (Anicca). When we see that everything is “not sure”, our heart gets a feel of both these qualities and able to "let go". 5. “The World” : our world consists of all those mental-identikits we have created, as all dhamma are Anatta and what we see are just our created sañña, projected onto the world. Contemplation of this will remind our heart that all that are dear to us or otherwise are just mental-identikits created by our heart. 6. “Now” : There's only this kammic moment that conditions the next. Reminds our heart to pay all our attention to now, to act now, skilfully. The talk is given by Ajahn Kovido. He is a very experienced meditator in the Thai Forest Tradition and an excellent teacher.
