In 1983 the last of the early twentieth century Manly ferries was farewelled from the harbour she'd spent 61 years serving. Unlike her sister ships, Baragoola was given a send off that did the old vessel proud. Crowded to the max with passengers even on her roof (not normally allowed), she made her last trip from Manly to Circular Quay. On November 27, 2008 Baragoola was sold at auction for just over $25,000. The buyer stated in the press he would use her as a dolphin watching vessel in Port Stevens but his real intention was to break her up for scrap. The efforts of the 'Save the Baragoola Association' to save the old girl bore fruit as the (exasperated) new owner sold her again. This time to an individual who recognises her historic and cultural significance. Soon work will begin on restoring Baragoola to her former glory, eventually returning her to the harbour he served for so long.
