This is a comping etude based on the chords to "Blue Bossa" (Kenny Dorham). I've actually compiled a PDF book of 11 etudes just like this, all based on famous standard chord progressions. You can get the PDF book along with backing tracks here: https://www.timcollinsmusic.com/11-ja... Check out my new jazz vibraphone course! https://www.timcollinsmusic.com/courses/ I wrote these etudes to try to take the mystery out of comping, especially since comping on the vibraphone seems to be one of those mysterious things - Do you do it like piano? Should you be like a guitar? Vibes can morph between several different styles, while at the same time taking some techniques and chord voicing styles from BOTH piano and guitar. This particular etude makes use of secondary dominant 7ths, parallel fourths movement, V7 alterations, passing minor chords, passing diminished chords, and adding major 7th to minor chords (The "James Bond" chord!). The other etudes in the book that I've written are based on the chord progressions for: Blues in F Rhythm Changes in Bb There Will Never Be Another You Stella By Starlight Autumn Leaves (G minor) Black Orpheus (Manha De Carnaval) Blue Bossa Lady Bird All Of Me All The Things You Are Body and Soul Each etude contains devices such as tritone substitution, V7 chord alterations, passing chords (diminished, minor, chromatic), secondary dominants, etcetera... After I wrote each one, I went back and added footnotes telling you where these different techniques are. When you study these chord progressions against the originals, you will discover for yourself how passing chords work, or tritone substitutions, for example. I always felt that learning these things in context of a song helped me much more than learning in a "theory class" style, detached from the music. So I hope these etudes will help you! As always, I hope you enjoy the video. Thank you for watching! -Tim Follow me on: Instagram: @TimCollinsVibes Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0Rz9R...
