Lois Riess was well liked in her community of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. She had been a trusted day care provider, a good friend and a popular member of the community along with her husband. She raised her children, enjoyed her grandkids, and all seemed well. Until she shot her husband. Ran away. Shot another woman and stole her identity. Then, some interesting stuff came out about her out of control gambling, stealing her sister's money (who was under her care), and stole money from her husband's bank account. Her claim? Her husband David was abusive and the woman she shot, she didn't mean to....she just blacked out and doesn't know what went wrong in her head. There are a number of documentaries on this case: Dateline NBC: The Woman at the Bar," ABC's 20/20 "The Killer Grandma," and "I am not a Monster: The Lois Riess Murders" on MAX/Discovery which, in spite of getting bad reviews on IMDB, I really found it fascinating which is why I am doing this show.
