This change is effective from January 1, 2024. The official order was issued on May 30, 2024. 🔹 2️⃣ Who Is Eligible? The new limit applies only to Central Civil Government employees governed under: Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021, and National Pension System (NPS) Rules, 2021. 🔹 3️⃣ Who Is Not Eligible? The ₹25 lakh ceiling does NOT apply to employees of: Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) Banks Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Port Trusts Universities & Autonomous Bodies State Government Employees 👉 These employees will receive Gratuity as per their organization’s own rules. 🔹 4️⃣ Why This Clarification Was Needed Many employees filed RTI queries asking whether PSU, RBI, and Bank staff are also covered. To clear the confusion, DoPPW officially clarified: “This rule applies only to Central Civil Government employees, not to other institutions.” 🔹 5️⃣ Background of the Revision Once the Dearness Allowance (DA) of Central employees crosses 50% of basic pay, it automatically triggers revisions in various retirement benefits — including Gratuity. That’s why the limit was increased to ₹25 lakhs. 🔹 6️⃣ Employee Guidance Employees should check with their HR or Pension Department to confirm which Gratuity rules apply to them. 🔹 7️⃣ Government’s Objective The move highlights the government’s commitment to ensure financial security after retirement.
