Women and State-Recognized Rabbinical Exams Speakers: Rabbi Dr. Seth Farber, Attorney Ella Sakat, Rabbanit Sarah Segal-Katz, Rabbanit Dr. Esther Fisher Moderator: Rabbanit Elyssa Moss Rabinowitz February 15, 2026 A panel discussion on the historic Supreme Court victory securing women's right to take the Chief Rabbinate's official halakhic exams. In July 2025, Israel's Supreme Court ruled in favor of six women petitioners who challenged gender-based restrictions on these examinations. But as our panelists discuss, winning in court is only the first step—implementation brings its own challenges. In this conversation, we explore what has happened since the ruling, what this victory means for religious feminism in Israel and the Diaspora, and what we can learn from previous religious feminist legal battles in Israel. The opening remarks for this event are based on Rabbanit Sarah Segal-Katz's article in the Times of Israel: https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/final... This event is part of Beit Midrash for Israeli Rabbis Week: Torah, Leadership, Choice, a program of the Shalom Hartman Institute and Midreshet Oranim, organized in partnership with: Itim, the Rackman Center, Kolenu, Gluya, JOFA, Yeshivat Maharat, Midreshet Ein HaNatziv, Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, the International Rabbinic Fellowship (IRF), Uri L’Tzedek, and Torat Chayim. @ShalomHartmanInstituteENG @ShalomHartmanInstitute למגזין גלויה: https://gluya.org/ לאתר האישי של הרבנית שרה סגל־כץ: https://sarahsegalkatz.com/
