Garden Warbler / A Frantic Song in the Thickets

Today I am going to show you something that did not turn out so well 🥹 One of Europe’s most energetic (I would even say downright crazy) singers is the garden warbler. Its frantic tune rings out abundantly from thickets along riverbanks, clearings, forest edges, or even gardens. But actually seeing it while it performs — that is a different story. This inconspicuous little brown creature stays hidden deep in the thickest branches, and when it does occasionally decide to pop out into the open, it’s only for a moment and in a completely unpredictable spot. That means the cameraman cannot set up an effective hide because, frankly, he never really knows where to aim. And garden warblers are rather wary of cameramen, so they simply do not let them get too close🫠 This May, I tried to film one of these crazy little singers, but it was all in vain. After four hours of effort, I had only three “better than nothing” shots on my memory card — the ones you are looking at now. Only when I got home did I realize that the little rascal even had a leg ring, which doesn’t look great on video! 😏 At least the song comes through loud and clear in the footage, so for now, enjoy the sound. A proper close-up of a singing garden warbler will come in the future.
