These verses are from the Shri Rudrashtakam, a powerful hymn composed by Tulsidas (found in the Ramcharitmanas). It is a soul-stirring prayer dedicated to Lord Shiva. Here is the section-by-section meaning of this sublime stotram: 1. The Nature of the Divine నమామీశమీశాన నిర్వాణరూపం... (Namami-sham-ishana...) Meaning: I bow to the Lord (Isha), the Master of the Universe, who is the very embodiment of Nirvana (liberation). Attributes: He is all-pervading (Vibhum), present in the entire cosmos (Vyapakam), and the essence of the Vedas. State: He is established in Himself (Nijam), beyond the three qualities (Nirgunam), beyond change (Nirvikalpam), and desireless (Nireeham). He is the sky of consciousness (Chidakasha). 2. The Source of Everything నిరాకారమోంకారమూలం తురీయం... (Nirakaram-omkara-mulam...) Meaning: He is formless, the root of the primordial sound Om, and exists in the fourth state of consciousness (Turiyam). Attributes: He is beyond speech, intellect, and senses. He is the Lord of the Mountains (Girisham). Power: He is the formidable destroyer of Time itself (Mahakala-kalam) yet incredibly compassionate (Kripalum). 3. The Radiant Form తుషారాద్రిసంకాశగౌరం గభీరం... (Tusharadrisankasha...) Meaning: His complexion is as white as the snow-capped mountains. His presence is profound and deep. Appearance: His body shines with the splendor of millions of Cupids (Manmathas). The holy Ganga flows from His hair, a crescent moon shines on His forehead, and serpents are coiled around His neck. 4. The Beloved Shankara చలత్కుండలం శుభ్రనేత్రం విశాలం... (Chalat-kundalam...) Meaning: He wears shimmering earrings; He has large, beautiful eyes and a serene, smiling face (Prasanna-ananam). Appearance: He has a blue throat (Nilakantham) from drinking the world's poison. He wears a tiger skin and a garland of skulls. I worship Shankara, the beloved Lord of all. 5. The Supreme Power ప్రచండం ప్రకృష్ణం ప్రగల్భం పరేశం... (Prachandam Prakrishtam...) Meaning: He is fierce, eminent, and majestic. He shines with the light of a million suns. Attributes: He holds the Trident (Shula), which uproots the three types of miseries (physical, mental, and spiritual). He is the husband of Goddess Bhavani and can be reached through pure devotion. 6. The Giver of Joy కలాతీతకల్యాణకల్పాంతకారీ... (Kalatita-kalyana...) Meaning: He is beyond time, the bringer of auspiciousness, and the one who dissolves the universe at the end of an eon (Kalpa). Attributes: He gives joy to righteous people and is the enemy of the demon Tripura (Purari). He dispels delusions and is the dispeller of the God of Lust (Manmathari). 7. The Only Refuge న యావదుమానాథపాదారవిందం... (Na yavad-umanatha...) Meaning: As long as humans do not worship the lotus feet of the Lord of Uma (Shiva), they will find no happiness, peace, or relief from suffering in this world or the next. Oh Lord, who resides in all beings, be pleased with me! 8. The Humble Surrender న జానామి యోగం జపం నైవ పూజాం... (Na janami yogam...) Meaning: I do not know Yoga, Japa (chanting), or the intricate rituals of worship. I simply bow to You, always and forever. Prayer: I am suffering in the fire of old age, birth, and grief. Oh Lord, protect me from this cycle of misery. Save me, O Shambho! 9. Phala Stuti (The Fruit of Recitation) రుద్రాష్టకమిదం ప్రోక్తం... (Rudrashtakam-idam proktam...) Meaning: This hymn was composed by the Sage (Tulsidas) to please Lord Hara. Whoever recites this with true devotion will find Lord Shambhu pleased with them. Summary: This prayer describes Shiva not just as a deity with a form (moon, snakes, ash), but as the Formless Absolute Truth that is the source of all peace and liberation.
