This magnificent estate was originally established during the Qajar dynasty in the early 20th century and later expanded by the Pahlavi kings, becoming their official summer residence. The complex features 18 palaces, each built in a different architectural style, reflecting a blend of Persian, European, and Neoclassical influences. Among the most prominent are the White Palace (Palace of the Nation) — the largest and most luxurious building — and the Green Palace, renowned for its mirror work and exquisite marble halls. Construction and expansion took place over several decades, with major development completed between 1920 and 1979 under Reza Shah and Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi. The estate was not only a royal residence but also a symbol of modern Iranian identity and royal prestige. The vegetation and natural setting of Sa’dabad are remarkable. Fed by the Darband River, the area is covered with ancient plane trees, cypresses, oaks, and maples, providing a rare microclimate within Tehran. Seasonal flowers and carefully designed gardens surround the palaces, reflecting traditional Persian landscaping combined with European garden design. Visiting Sa’dabad Palace can easily take 3 to 4 hours to explore fully — even longer if you wish to walk through its gardens, multiple museums, and forested paths. However, due to recent regional tensions between Iran and Israel, all museum buildings within the complex have been closed to the public for several months. At present, visitors are only allowed to access the outdoor areas and gardens. In addition, filming restrictions are currently enforced in certain zones for security reasons, and recording equipment may be limited in some areas. Despite these restrictions, Sa’dabad remains one of the most peaceful and historically rich destinations in Tehran, a place where the grandeur of Iran’s royal past quietly coexists with the serenity of nature.
