Principal's Shocking DWI Arrest: Demands Trooper Call Sheriff, Mayor, and More!

Cop Watch Carlsbad, New Mexico. On May 1, 2024, Jefferson Montessori Academy's Principal, Kelli Barta, was pulled over for speeding on her way home. Principal Barta, of the JMA K-12 charter school in Carlsbad, New Mexico, failed to complete a field sobriety test to the trooper's satisfaction and refused to submit to a breath test. She was subsequently charged with speeding (over 11-15 mph), no insurance, and aggravated 1st DWI (refused to submit to chemical testing). The body cam footage was provided by the NMDPS Open Records Center and is intended to be informative. The footage is shown in its entirety except for the video overlapping for multiple angles. Any cuts or muting in the video were done by NMDPS. All the blurred sections were also done by NMDPS, except for the blurring of Barta's daughter's face, which I added.
