Over the last few weeks, I have tested the new Opium S2 SSi speed pedelec. I have done more than 300 km including a lot of climbing and with part of it in very cold November and December weather. This bike is next level, both in terms of performance, specs and the way it drives. I’d put it up there with the best premium bikes from Twinner, Stromer and Riese & Müller. But priced at about 12,000 Euros/CHF it is also a big investment which only a few customers will want to make. I particularly liked the way the S2 handles. The Pinion C1.12i auto-gearbox is a nice and useful gimmick. The Supernova lights are excellent, too. What I liked less is the heavy weight of 37 kg meaning a lot of heavy lifting. The Opium S2 SSi is a high-end bike with all the bells and whistles. If you are a tech-lover or if you plan to commute on the bike, this is it. It has no real weaknesses and delivers driving pleasure with very competent brakes and handling. The range is approx. 100 km in HIGH power setting and over 200 km in ECO. The speed pedelec market is a growing niche market in Europe – and it is likely to continue growing as more and more riders eye the benefits of riding a bike instead of driving a car. I loved riding this bike. Thank you to George Merachtsakis, CEO of REVOLT ZYCLING AG / Opium Bikes, for lending me the test bike. Thank you for watching Mobility Insider. Filmed in Switzerland in November & December 2025. Produced by DNTS Productions.
