This video was filmed at Saheb Al‑Zaman Zurkhaneh in the historic city of Yazd. The Zurkhaneh, meaning “House of Strength,” is the traditional place where athletes practice Varzesh-e Pahlavani, an ancient Iranian system of physical training and spiritual discipline. Inside the Zurkhaneh, athletes perform rhythmic exercises using traditional equipment such as wooden clubs (mil), shields (sang), and the bow-shaped iron weight (kabbadeh). The movements are guided by the morshed, who beats a drum and recites classical Persian poetry, often inspired by the epic Shahnameh written by the poet Ferdowsi. More than a sport, Varzesh-e Pahlavani represents values of strength, humility, honor, and respect. This cultural tradition has been recognized by UNESCO as part of Iran’s intangible cultural heritage. 📍 Location: Saheb Al‑Zaman Zurkhaneh, Yazd Traditional Iranian Zurkhaneh training and ritual
