When we think of Seletar, we think of planes and aerospace… but did you know it was once home to sea nomads? ✈️🌊 Before the British arrived, the Orang Seletar — a subgroup of the Orang Laut — lived along the Seletar River and surrounding mangroves. In the early 20th century, the area became dominated by rubber plantations and kampongs. In 1923, the British acquired land here to build RAF Seletar, the first Royal Air Force base in the Far East, which opened in 1930 and even served as Singapore’s earliest civilian airport until 1937. Today, the area has transformed into Seletar Aerospace Park and Seletar Airport, linking its aviation past with a high-tech future. Yet remnants of history remain — from black-and-white colonial bungalows to the tranquil Hampstead Wetlands Park. 📍 Seletar — from sea nomads to skyways 🔔 Like, comment & subscribe for more hidden Singapore stories 🇸🇬📜 Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/YFsjxZqZgEsqL...
