At the Time to Watches event in Geneva, Sinn Spezialuhren, an independent watch brand based in Frankfurt am Main, showcased its latest timepieces. Renowned for technical precision and the use of unique materials, Sinn has a history of producing robust watches with compelling backstories. Celebrating 20 years of crafting diving watches from German submarine steel, Sinn introduced three special models: the U15, U16, and U18. These timepieces are constructed from steel sourced directly from decommissioned German Navy submarines—specifically, the U15, U16, and U18. Each watch's dial indicates the nautical miles traveled by its corresponding submarine, offering wearers a tangible connection to maritime history. The U15 features a 41mm case with a water resistance of up to 500 meters. The U16 expands to a 44mm case, offering water resistance up to 1,000 meters. The U18 also measures 44mm but boasts an impressive water resistance of 2,000 meters. All models are equipped with Sinn's TEGIMENT Technology, enhancing scratch resistance, and the U18 incorporates the brand's Ar-Dehumidifying Technology to prevent internal fogging. In addition to these commemorative models, Sinn presented the 613 St and 613 St UTC diving chronographs. Both 41mm watches feature a 60-minute stopwatch display, magnetic field protection up to 100mT, and a captive diver’s bezel with minute ratcheting. The UTC variant includes a second time zone on a 24-hour scale, catering to international professionals. Both models are certified for depths up to 500 meters and incorporate Ar-Dehumidifying Technology for enhanced reliability. Sinn also unveiled the T50 Goldbronze B, a testament to the brand's material innovation. This 41mm diver's watch features a proprietary Goldbronze 125 alloy, blending bronze with 12.5% gold for improved corrosion resistance. The case and bezel's warm tones contrast with a deep blue dial, reminiscent of ocean depths. The T50 Goldbronze B maintains Sinn’s hallmark features, including a captive safety diver’s bezel and pressure resistance up to 500 meters. Sinn’s commitment to functionality is evident in their mission timers, designed for specific professional applications. Collaborations with professionals, such as rescue services and medical personnel, have led to watches tailored to their unique needs. These timepieces often feature easily cleanable straps, removable bezels, and scales for critical time measurements, ensuring reliability in demanding situations. The brand's history dates back to 1961, founded by pilot and flight instructor Helmut Sinn, focusing on creating the perfect instruments for pilots. In 1994, engineer Lothar Schmidt acquired the company, bringing experience from IWC and A. Lange & Söhne. Under his leadership, Sinn expanded its range to include diving watches and mission timers, integrating innovative technologies to enhance performance. Sinn’s dedication to technical excellence and innovative use of materials continues to position the brand at the forefront of horological engineering. By combining historical significance with modern technology, Sinn offers timepieces that are both functional instruments and storied artifacts.
