Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle

There is a fundamental limitation to just how precisely we can know both the position and momentum of a particle at a given time. This is the statement of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. This limitation is so small for large particles such as a cricket ball or baseball. However, for a small particle such as a photon or an election, the limitation becomes quite important. Applied to the election, the uncertainty principle implies that we cannot know the exact motion of the election as it moves around the nucleus. It is therefore not appropriate to as assume that the election is moving around the nucleus in a well-defined orbit, as in the Bohr Model.
