🇮🇩 Architect Couple Built a Temple-Cave-Castle-Inspired Home

“To make something that inspires people, we need to get inspired first,” so, where did this inspiration come from for Kalvin and Dian? A cave? A temple? A castle? How about mixing them all inside a blender (or cement mixer, get it)? What came out of it is a beautiful massive dark-grey mass with gravitational pull even stronger than the tall buildings visible couple blocks in front of it. Stack of blocks on the left, monolith on the right, differentiated not only for the aesthetics, but as emphasis of the functions. It’s co-living, office, and home seamlessly standing side-by-side. They made a program so immaculate that no functions ever interfere one another. The designs were often motivated by challenges of notions; avoidance to dark-colored materials, the habit of closing down full-glass windows for privacy reason (“why would you use glass in the first place?” said Kalvin), to the normalization of moms cooking alone in the kitchen while the rest are having fun in the other room. This approach allows the designers to push boundaries, creating a one-of-a-kind experience. Celebrating locality, Kalvin and Dian went all out to use only one prominent material, brick. Magical and fantasy-like are the terms best to describe this home. Further proven, despite commonly known as a harsh, rough material, the designers managed to pull another trick to bring warmth, coziness, even bounciness out of it. And it's only one of many surprises the house can give. Magic.
