The urinary system is a vital body system responsible for the formation, storage, and elimination of urine. It helps maintain homeostasis by regulating the balance of water, electrolytes, and acids–bases in the body. The urinary system also plays an important role in removing metabolic waste products such as urea, creatinine, and uric acid from the blood. The main organs of the urinary system include two kidneys, two ureters, the urinary bladder, and the urethra. The kidneys filter the blood to form urine, regulate blood pressure, and maintain fluid and electrolyte balance. The ureters transport urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder, where it is temporarily stored. The urethra carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body during urination. Overall, the urinary system is essential for detoxification, regulation of body fluids, and maintaining internal stability of the body.
