On 19 July 2007, 21-year-old engineering student Snehal Gavare went missing from her home in Dombivli, Mumbai. Over 12 hours later, her mother, Kalpana Gavare, discovered her body stuffed inside a divan bed. Both of her hands were tied behind her back, and a white cloth was tightly gagging her mouth. The post-mortem report confirmed that Snehal died due to asphyxia caused by smothering. Despite several leads — including a blank SMS sent from her phone, her recovered mobile phone, a missing attendance register, and psychological tests including BEOSP (Brain Fingerprinting) — the investigation has remained inconclusive for over 18 years. Her former boyfriend, Hiren Rathod, was questioned multiple times, but insufficient evidence prevented the filing of a chargesheet. The case also highlights investigative lapses: Delayed handling of the crime scene led to contamination of critical evidence. Missing attendance records and mishandled phone evidence prevented verification of alibis. Psychological and forensic tests suggested possible involvement but were not legally admissible. Court records repeatedly noted that the investigation was unsatisfactory and recommended further probing. Even after almost two decades, no suspect has been convicted, and Snehal’s murder remains one of Mumbai’s most haunting unsolved cases. This case is not just about a crime—it is about a young life lost, a grieving family, and the failings of the justice system. #SnehalGavareCase #UnsolvedMystery #TrueCrimeIndia #MurderMystery #JusticeForSnehal #CrimeInvestigation #MumbaiCrime #UnsolvedCrime #ColdCase #IndianTrueCrime #truecrime #india #MysterySolved #CrimeDocumentary #InvestigationStory #TrueCrimeStories #CrimePodcast #UnsolvedMurders #ForensicEvidence #MurderInvestigation #IndianCrimeStories #BoxBedMurder #Documentary #TrueCrime
