History of the Northumberland Fusiliers

The History of The Northumberland Fusiliers – a Talk by David Smith of the Fusiliers Museum, Alnwick Castle for members of The Northumberland and Newcastle Society. Held on Wednesday 11 January 2023, hosted by the Northumberland & Newcastle Society. About our speaker David Smith is retired. He has lived and worked in Newcastle upon Tyne all of his life. He was a volunteer with the Army Cadet Force for many years. Having reached the upper age limit for the Cadets, David now volunteers at the Northumberland Fusiliers Museum at Alnwick Castle and has done since 2014. He has always been interested in military history, especially the First and Second World Wars, although his knowledge has expanded greatly since joining the Museum. David has helped the Museum in developing its Outreach Programme in schools, the Handling Collection which is popular with visitors to the Museum and research enquiries. Along with a small team of volunteers, he also helps with routine tasks to enhance the Museum’s appeal to visitors.
