V-Carving this sign was my first attempt at using the Advanced V-Carve toolpath in Carbide Create. I think it turned out pretty good! I started by creating a vector design in Affinity Designer before exporting as SVG to Carbide Create. A quick tip: I have found that exporting from Affinity as an SVG, set the DPI to 96 for the imported vector to be sized correctly in Carbide Create. In Carbide Create, I selected the lines in the vector drawing used the Advanced V-Carve toolpath, with pocketing turned on, to create a toolpath for the Shapeoko. I set the depth of cut to 1/16" and exported the G-code file to send to Carbide Motion. I cut the 9" x 3/4" x 3-1/2" walnut blank from a four-foot-long piece of walnut from the big-box store I've had around my shop for a long time. I used Oramask stencil film to mask the walnut blank before cutting. This stuff does a great job of cutting cleanly on the Shapeoko as long as the cutting bit can engage both sides of the v-carved path. In my case, I found that some of the letters and borders were too small, and I needed to clean them up with a razor blade after cutting. Setup on the Shapeoko was reasonably straightforward. I taped down the walnut stock and zeroed the stock's bottom-left corner using the Bit Zero before running the job. I masked all but the "fresh brewed" and "5 cents" letters and sprayed these with orange spray paint. I then hid the orange letters and sprayed the rest with white. I gave each one a few coats. After a quick sanding, I applied wipe-on poly for a quick and easy finish. Finally, I drilled two 1/4" holes to accept some twine I used as a hanging wire. I used hot glue to fix the rope in place. All that was left to do now was enjoy a hot coffee! 🔗 COFFEE SIGN: https://cutrocket.com/p/613aaf632e3f8/ 🎬 MORE SHAPEOKO VIDEOS: • Shapeoko Projects 🍺 SUPPORT MY CHANNEL: https://paypal.me/acwrightdesign -------------------------------- 🚀 FOLLOW ME OR GET IN TOUCH Instagram: / acwrightdesign Twitter: / acwrightdesign Pinterest: / acwrightdesign Github: https://github.com/acwright 📦 ITEMS I USED IN THIS VIDEO As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
