A narrow serpentine road – less than 3 m wide in sections – leads up to Germany’s highest castle ruins: Falkenstein in the Allgäu region, 1,277 m above sea level. The road is also the lifeline for a boutique hotel and its asphalt surface was in urgent need of renovation. The Josef Böck GmbH from Nesselwang took on the job using the new VÖGELE SUPER 1800-5 X road paver. The challenge: hairpin bends, gradients of over 30%, hardly any room to maneuver. The mix could only be delivered to the construction site by three-axle trucks, some of which had to drive in reverse for over a kilometer. The SUPER 1800-5 X and the AB 500 TP1 extending screed were used for the paving process. SmartWheel also helped to ensure precise steering and thus clean work in tight bends. Compaction was carried out using two HAMM tandem rollers: the HD 13 VO and the HD 10 VT.
