Host: Nishan Sampreeth Chilkuri (@nishanchilkuri) Rajasthan has 54 positive cases of Coronavirus, and like every other state, they have also imposed a strict lockdown. You’ve seen videos of how police are enforcing this curfew, several people have been left with marks on their legs and backs which will remind them not to venture out. Today is Day 6, of the 21-day lockdown. Let’s talk about how the Rajasthan police department has come up with a unique non-violent strategy to make sure people do not come out on to the streets unnecessarily. Instead of beating them with lathis or making them do sit-ups, those who are found loitering on the streets are being taken to quarantine wards to take care of Coronavirus patients. Murari Lal Sharma, the sub-divisional magistrate of Nawalgarh, in Rajasthan, says this is not a joke. There is a huge deficit of people to serve patients, and this will benefit them while keeping the streets empty. He also asked citizens to take photographs if they see someone unnecessarily hanging out on the roads.
