Wide of Rotterdam airport STORYLINE: Dutch police and United Nations tribunal officials prepared on Wednesday morning for the arrival of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic. Karadzic was on board a plane from Belgrade, in the process of being extradited to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague where he will stand trial for genocide. Police helicopters and vans with tinted windows were waiting at Rotterdam airport, the closest of several air fields where the jet carrying Karadzic could land. A business jet that was believed to be flying Karadzic to the Netherlands was seen taking off from Belgrade at about 4:15 am (0215 GMT). It was due to land at Rotterdam airport at around 6 a.m. (0400 GMT). The Serbian government said in a statement issued early on Wednesday that its justice ministry had issued a decree that allowed Karadzic's handover. Karadzic is to be taken to a detention centre near the court where he will stand trial for genocide. Officials at the jail near The Hague cleared the courtyard to enable a helicopter to land, although it was unclear whether Karadzic will be brought by helicopter or car. At the jail, Karadzic will go through an identification process and a medical check.
