I am so fortunate to work at a university filled with wonderful musicians and colleagues. Tennessee Tech University's woodwind faculty have been keeping music making alive during this time of unprecedented isolation, and we're excited to present Elmer Bernstein's theme from The Magnificent Seven (1960), in a large woodwind ensemble arrangment published by Mel Orriss at Wonderful Winds Music (www.wonderfulwinds.com). Thanks to Mel for permission to make and share this video! This was a labor of love for me, as I spent most of October doing the audio and video editing for this project. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I also found that working with these videos and recordings of my music friends was like being with them, even when we are not physically making music together right now. Instrumentation: flutes 1,2,3, and piccolo; oboes 1,2,3, and English horn; clarinets 1,2,3, and bass clarinet; bassons 1,2, and contrabassoon; alto 1,2, tenor, and baritone saxophones. The piece was arranged by Anna Cooper and transcribed for woodwinds by Alfie Pugh. Sixteen video tracks, twenty-one audio tracks, and many hours of effort went into creating this performance, and I hope you enjoy hearing and seeing it as much as we enjoyed putting it together!
