Sorry for the rough audio, this was a quick and rushed video. I learned something about my Sony A7 III recently.. but the hard way. Images were showing up with lines across them in areas of strong lighting. Apparently, this is called PDAF striping. PDAF stands for Phase Detection Autofocus, a technology widely used in digital cameras and smartphone cameras to quickly and accurately focus on a subject. It works by using pairs of pixels on the camera sensor to detect the phase difference of the light coming from the subject and adjust the lens until the phase difference is zero, which indicates that the image is in focus. The term "PDAF Striping" refers to an issue sometimes observed in images taken with cameras utilising PDAF technology. This issue manifests as a pattern of alternating dark and light stripes in the image. This striping happens due to the PDAF pixels on the sensor being slightly different from the regular pixels. When these pixels are interpolated to produce the final image, it can sometimes result in a visible striping pattern, especially in areas with uniform colour and brightness. I was thankfully able to fix this using the RawTherapee software, available here: https://www.rawtherapee.com/ Images can be "fixed" and then exported in various formats. Unfortunately, you cannot re-save to the .DNG file and obviously not to the native RAW files either... However, this is more than acceptable considering the results!
