Rep. King-Hinds on Working to Uphold the US’s Promises to the Freely Associated States

I introduce and discuss my new bill, the U.S. Vets of the FAS Act, which is designed to ensure that U.S. veterans living in the Freely Associated States receive the health care services they were promised. Despite longstanding commitments under COFA, the Department of Veterans Affairs has failed to fully implement critical health care access for veterans residing in the FAS. This legislation holds the VA accountable by expanding access to telehealth services, prescription medications, and beneficiary travel for eligible veterans living in the Freely Associated States. I also highlight the support received from the VA and Ambassador Paul of the Marshall Islands and reflect on his testimony regarding how this bill will directly improve care for veterans and their families. The U.S. Vets of the FAS Act puts COFA commitments into action and begins the long overdue process of delivering care to the veterans it was meant to serve.
