From your family and from your Father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. Genesis 13:5-7 Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents. Now the land was not able to support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together. And there was strife between the herdsman of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. Genesis 13:8-9 So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left Genesis 13:10-12 And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. Genesis 13:14-17 And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward and westward; For all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever…Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” Discern The People In Your Life When the Lord wants to BLESS your life, He will send into your life a PERSON. When the Satan wants to destroy your life, he will send into your life a PERSON. Proverbs 12:26 “A righteous man is cautious in friendships.” Two types of Friends: Flesh Friends (unhealthy relationships) Tear you down, Feed your fears, Waste your time, Drain your energy, Reduce your effectiveness, Sap your resources, Walk in Darkness Faith Friends (healthy relationships) Fuel our lives, Encourage our lives, Strengthen our lives, Draw us closer to God, Honest with You, Inspire you, Walk in the Light Proverbs 13:20 “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.” Proverbs 14:7 “Stay away from fools, for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.” 1 Corinthians 5:1 “…you should not associate with people who call themselves brothers or sisters in the Christian faith but live in sexual sin, are greedy, worship false gods, use abusive language, get drunk or are dishonest. Don’t even eat with such people.” Proverbs 22:24-25 Don’t befriend angry people of associate with hot-tempered people, or you will learn to be like them and endanger your soul.” Psalm 26:4-5 I do not spend time with liars or go along with hypocrites. I hate the gatherings of those who do evil, and I refuse to join in with the wicked.” 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?
