Disassembly Remove accessories: alternator, starter, fuel pump Remove valve cover, rockers, pushrods Detach head, oil pan, and timing gear cover Take out pistons, rods, crankshaft 2. Inspection Cylinder block for cracks or wear Crankshaft journals for scoring Pistons and rings for wear or cracks Camshaft and bearings Oil pump, turbocharger, valves & springs 3. Cleaning Chemically clean block and head Clean oil passages, coolant lines Ensure no debris in oil gallery 4. Machining (if needed) Re-hone or bore cylinders Grind crankshaft if out of spec Resurface cylinder head Replace valve seats/seals 5.
