Stand before the mihrab of the Great Mosque of Kairouan and the wall begins to shimmer, its diamond-set luster tiles flickering with blue flowers and Iraqi light. These Abbasid imports were not mere decoration but a calculated political gesture, embedding the prestige of Baghdad into the very surface of Aghlabid Ifriqiya.
