In the 17th century, the 16th-century farm dance BERGAMASCA gets its regular melody that has inspired many composers over the centuries. This is also the case with S. Scheidt, who composed beautiful variations on this famous melody, which stand out particularly well on the organ. SAMUEL SCHEIDT In 1603, the young SAMUEL SCHEIDT was already an organist in the Moritzkerk in Halle. In 1607 and 1608 he stays with Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck in Amsterdam. Together with Sweelinck, he writes variations on the famous 'Paduana Hispanica'. In 1609 he became organist of the Magdalena Chapel on the Moritzburg in Halle. In 1619 Scheidt was appointed Hofkapelmeister. The chapel consists of professional singers and instrumentalists, with students from the municipal gymnasium also participating in the church services. Between 1620 and 1627 a number of bands with vocal and instrumental music appeared in print. In 1624/25 Compenius builds a new organ for the Moritzkerk under supervision of Scheidt. The Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) has consequences for Scheidt. In Halle, the famous musician is promoted and is appointed "Director Musices" in 1628. Scheidt reforms the "Stadtpfeiferei", provides new instruments and music, and reorganizes the figural choir of the gymnasium. In the main church "St. Marien" the new concerted style is introduced in church music. Conflicts arise with the headmaster of the school. According to the school regulations, the cantor is the subordinate of the headmaster. Scheidt is not employed by the school and believes that as 'Director Musices' he is not a subordinate of the headmaster. The council of the city of town takes sides with the rector and after two years Scheidt has already lost his position. After 1644 regular services for the court take place again, now in the Dom. Scheidt continues to live in his hometown all his life as an organ expert, he undertakes trips. BERGAMASCA In de 17e eeuw krijgt de 16e eeuwse boerendans BERGAMASCA een vaste melodie die componisten door de eeuwen heen heeft geinspireerd. Ook S. Scheidt componeertde over deze beroemde melodie prachtige variaties die ook op orgel bijzonder tot recht komen. SAMUEL SCHEIDT In 1603 is de jonge SAMUEL SCHEIDT al organist in de Moritzkerk te Halle. In 1607 en 1608 verblijft hij bij Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck in Amsterdam. Hij schrijft samen met Sweelinck variaties over de bekende 'Paduana Hispanica'. In 1609 wordt hij organist van de Magdalenakapel op de Moritzburg te Halle. Samuel doet ook dienst in de residentie van markgraaf Christian Wilhelm van Brandenburg "bei Tisch und bei der Tafel". In 1619 wordt Scheidt benoemd tot Hofkapelmeister. De kapel bestaat uit professionele zangers en instrumentalisten. Voor kerkdiensten werken ook leerlingen van het stedelijk gymnasium mee. Tussen 1620 en 1627 verschijnen banden met vocale en instrumentale muziek in druk. In 1624/25 bouwt Compenius onder supervisie van Scheidt een nieuw orgel voor de Moritzkerk. De dertigjarige oorlog( 1618-1648) heeft enorme gevolgen voor Scheidt. In Halle wil men de beroemde musicus graag voor de stad behouden en hij krijgt promotie en wordt in 1628 benoemd tot "Director Musices". Scheidt hervormt de "Stadtpfeiferei", zorgt voor nieuwe instrumenten en muziek en reorganiseert het figurale koor van het gymnasium. In de hoofdkerk "St. Marien" wordt de nieuwe concerterende stijl in de kerkmuziek ingevoerd. Er ontstaan conflicten met de rector van de school. Volgens het schoolreglement is de cantor de ondergeschikte van de rector. Scheidt is niet in dienst van de school en meent, dat hij als Director Musices geen ondergeschikte van de rector is. De raad van de stad stad kiest partij voor de rector en na twee jaar is Scheidt zijn functie weer kwijt. Na 1644 vinden er weer regelmatig diensten voor het hof plaats, nu in de Dom.
