We have had a few followers on Facebook asking about JJ's medications. We believe the combination of these medications, vitamins, minerals and supplements have helped him tremendously. His aggressions are less severe and he is able to focus much better than ever before. For those who are new to our page, here is a little back history on JJ regarding his school and meeting his neurologist. JJ was going to a self-contained autism class at the public school that he has been going to since kindergarten. JJ really struggled at that school, especially for the last couple of years. 6th grade was by far the worst year for him. We often got a call from the teacher letting us know how badly his behaviors were. He would come home with the teacher's reports of him getting aggressive with teachers, staff and peers. We worked to get him early releases and a one on one. We were able to get early release for him at 1pm every day. We thought it would help, but he continued with the same behaviors. He would get overly aggressive with the bus driver and assistant. JJ then required a safety harness before riding the school bus to and from school. We had a zoom meeting with the teacher's and her team and it was at this time that we found out that he could no longer go to this school and we will need to find another school for him to attend. This took us completely by surprise. We felt hurt because the school just gave up on our boy. We were in shock and didn't know what to do. The next day the school called us to schedule appointments to tour private schools. Shelly and I researched different schools and narrowed it down to a handful of them. We toured our first school on November 20th and we loved it. Shelly was ready to go for it but I thought we should get a look at others to get a good comparison. We had to wait until Thanksgiving break was over to resume our tours. We found out that we were not going to be able to tour any of the other schools on our list. One of JJ's followers recommended EXCEL school and this is a school that we would be able to tour. On December 3rd, we got to tour this school and we loved it. We only toured two schools and this is the one we chose. This school has aquatic therapy, music therapy, ABA, speech and occupational therapies and it has an awesome playground with a splash pad. Here they will be able to handle JJ’s aggressions and satisfy his needs. Near the end of JJ’s time at the public school, we met a neurologist, Dr. Richard Frye. Through Dr. Frye, we found out that JJ has Mitochondrial disorder and he was accepted into a study that included a sleep study to check for seizures. Neither of the studies worked out, but the Doctor recommended JJ take the vitamins, minerals and supplements that were used in the study. Since JJ was not able to be in the study, would have to purchase everything out of pocket. We decided that we were going to do it and since we started JJ on these, we have seen him become much more focused and have less severe outbursts. God has Blessed us with a precious boy and has led us on a path that has been nothing but positive. What we thought was a betrayal by the public school was actually a blessing in disguise and we found a much better school and an awesome neurologist that has helped JJ become more focused and happy. When it comes to taking his medicine, JJ is unable to take a pill so we crush pills into a liquid and give it to him through a syringe. Taking a pill by mouth will take a little time for him, but he will do it when the time is right and he is good and ready. We have gotten a few questions asking about the medications and vitamins JJ takes for aggression. Everything JJ is taking is working together to help him better focus and control his outbursts. This is a list of everything JJ is currently taking: MORNING: GUAUANFACINE (Two 1MG tablets) ALEGRA for allergies (10 ML) ANRC ESSENTIALS PLUS POWDER VITAMIN/MINERAL SUPPLEMENT. (Two scoops added to liquid) Purchased at the Autism Nutrition Research Center. LEVOCARNITINE Supplement (10 ML Liquid) UBIQUINOL (One 200 MG Soft gel) Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega 2840 Mg (10 ML) NIGHTTIME: LEVOCARNITINE Supplement (10 ML Liquid) ANRC ESSENTIALS PLUS POWDER VITAMIN/MINERAL SUPPLEMENT. (Two scoops added to liquid) HYDROXYZINE (20 ML Syrup) TRAZODONE (One 50MG tablet before bed) CLONIDINE (One 0.1 MG tablet before bed) MELETONIN (One tablet before bed) We recently found out that one of his sleep meds, Trazodone causes weight gain because it increases appetite. We are staying with it for now until our next appointment with the neurologist. At that time, we will decide whether to will go with a different sleep medicine. If this is helping JJ, there is a possibility that it could help many other people with autism or Mitochondrial disorder. If you care, please share!! Much Love and God Bless You
