In this video, I show the eight main beats on the conga drum and various combinations of their application. By doing these exercises, you will be able to master the basic rhythm performed in the styles of Son, Cha-cha, Mambo and Salsa, which is called Tumbao. To begin with, I recommend that you practice sound production on a single drum, and when you have mastered it, move on to playing on two or three drums. I will show the tumbao drawing and its variations for two reels in the next video. Apparently there will be a series of videos, since there are a lot of Afro-Cuban rhythms and they are all very interesting. Notation of beats and method of sound extraction: Open Tone - O (Open Strike. The main tone of the drum is extracted, the fingers bounce off the skin without muffling the sound ) Slap - S ( Slap. The blow goes with the heel of the palm to the edge of the drum, the tips of the fingers slap the skin by inertia and are fixed on it. The fingers are pressed against the skin, and there is space between the fingers and the palm ) Open Slap (an Accentuated fingertip kick, the fingers bounce back after the kick allowing the drum overtones to sound like a flagalet ) Muffle - M (Muffled Strike. It looks like an open one but the fingers are pressed flat against the skin drowning out the tone ) Palm - P (Palm Strike - not an accentuated blow, the palm of the entire plane lies on the skin closer to the edge of the drum. This beat helps extract the "Closed slap" sound) Finger - F (finger Strike. Non-accentuated shock, often goes in combination with the Plam shock and as a fill to help maintain a fine ripple ) Bass - B (Accented beat in the center of the drum. Performed with the entire palm, but without the fingers. It is better read when the drum is mounted on a rack or when playing sitting the drum is sometimes lifted by the legs, clasping it ) #Congas #percussion #howtoplay
