(10 Jan 2004) 1. US National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice entering White House briefing room 2. SOUNDBITE (English) Condoleezza Rice, US National Security Advisor: "We have a number of issues that we'd like to talk to - that we talk to the Syrians about, including the borders with Iraq and what may have happened in the past there and what may be continuing to happen there; Syrian support for terrorism in Damascus, particularly support for Hezbollah and Hamas and their relationship with Lebanon in that regard. And clearly, any indication that something like that happened would be a very serious matter. But I want to be very clear. We don't, at this point, have any indications that I would consider credible and firm that that has taken place, but we will tie down every lead." 3. Reporters 4. Side shot of briefing room podium with Rice STORYLINE: The United States (US) has no credible evidence that Iraq moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria early last year before the US-led war that drove Saddam Hussein from power, US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice said Friday. Rice also said the US does not have enough information at this point to make a judgment on the issue, but that US intelligence agencies would continue to follow every lead. In nine months, arms control experts in Iraq have failed to find a single item from a long list of weapons of mass destruction. The US government cited an alleged weapons stockpile in Iraq as a primary reason for launching the war against Saddam's government.
