2025年大阪・関西万博 住友館「UNKNOWN FOREST」。来場者がランタンを手に森をめぐり、“いのちの物語”に出会うこの体験には、実は“学術的な根拠”と“森の叡智”が隠されています。この映像では、UNKNOWN FORESTの森の中の体験の映像と共に、演出の裏にある自然のメカニズムを“種明かし”として紹介していきます。 ＜ストーリー＞ 約4億年前、地球に森が生まれた。以来、森は数えきれない命を育み、人間にとっては、敬い、そして時に恐れる存在となってきた。文明が進んだ現代においても、森には多くの「未知」が息づいている。物語の舞台は、その未知なる森――UNKNOWN FOREST。 この森を訪れた人々は、一本の巨木「マザーツリー」に導かれる。 幾千年もの時を生きたこの木は、いま、命の終わりを迎えようとしていた。 そして彼女は、最期の願いを人々に託す――「いのちの物語を、集めてきてほしい」。 マザーツリーは、森を吹き抜ける風の力を「ランタン」に宿す。 それを手にした者だけが、森に眠る“いのちの物語”を引き出すことができる。やがて、風に乗って現れる風の妖精に導かれ、人々は森の奥深くへと足を踏み入れていく。 この森は、自ら探し求めなければ、何も語ってはくれない。仲間と共に、冒険心と想像力を携えて森をめぐるとき、心を震わす新たな発見が待っている。 そこには、「誰も知らない、いのちの物語」が広がっている。 Sumitomo Pavilion “UNKNOWN FOREST.” In this immersive experience, visitors walk through the forest with a lantern in hand, encountering the many “Stories of Life.” Hidden within this experience are deep academic insights and the wisdom of the forest. This video unveils the “secrets” behind the production—introducing the natural mechanisms and ideas that inspired the design of the UNKNOWN FOREST, alongside scenes from the forest experience itself. ＜STORY＞ Approximately 400 million years ago, forests were born on this planet. Ever since, it has given life to countless beings, serving as a presence that man reveres and at the same time fears. Even today when civilization has developed, many “unknowns” still remain in the forest. This story takes place in that, “UNKNOWN FOREST.” Visitors to this forest are guided by a giant “Mother Tree.” This tree, that has lived thousands of years, is approaching the end of her life. She entrusts her final wish to her visitors, to “gather stories of life.” The Mother Tree breathes the power of the forest wind into the lantern so that those who hold the lantern will be able to seek out the “stories of life.” Fairies of the wind appear on a breeze and kindly guides their visitors. This forest will not speak a word unless people set out to make discoveries on their own. Only when they score through the forest along with their comrades with a sense of adventure and imagination, will people find new discoveries that shake their souls. There, they will find “stories waiting to be discovered.”
