'' arkansas sheiks '' - cold rain & snow live 1975.

~ A folk/blue grass group that formed in 1972 when karana hattersley drayton and two friends in 'sweets mill' decided to start playing all the local folk haunts...soon they were joined by michael drayton/hoyle osborne/kate brislin & tony marcus but at times joined for live dates by many friends...a rare album was released in '75 on the local oakland label bay records & recorded in march & may of that year at the labels home studio 'whiskey before breakfast' with those many friends along guesting such as jody stecher & laurie lewis on bass...playing gigs at venues such as 'freight & salvage/stern grove & the blue grass folk festivals along with as heard here the UCLA folk festival where from a rare and live tape i've taken that old tune as done by the grateful dead 'cold rain & snow' (intro mentions this...) karana has a great voice and i just love the backing in this folk setting...stecher & brislin would form a duo for many years after wards releasing several albums along the way...the thumbnail photo seen here has the group seatted in karana's kitchen table in berkeley!..i also discovered a small amount of film footage of the band and may one day upload it...so for now enjoy this fabulous live tune..p.s.the album has a studio version but i prefer this...and before those who seem to enjoy picking me up on details i know of the songwriting credit on the deads debut album that should read 'traditional'...
