STORYLINE: The Canadian-based maker of the BlackBerry, Research in Motion Ltd. (RIM) say they are in formal talks with the Indonesian government to discuss issues regarding "content filtering" in the country. "We fully understand the needs and requirements as articulated by the ministry and we are fully committed to providing a solution and solutions that satisfy the needs and requirements of the ministry and Indonesian government as it relates to BlackBerry service here in Indonesia," says Gregory Wade, RIM's managing director for South East Asia. Gatot Dewabroto, a spokesman for the Indonesian Information Ministry, says a report of the meeting with RIM has been handed over to the Minister of Information, and that further decisions will be announced by the ministry at a later date. Some Jakarta residents on Monday expressed satisfaction with the government's decision to filter out pornographic content on the BlackBerry. "I agree with the closing of pornographic content because it is for good. BlackBerry users are not only adults. Many young children have use it, like my niece, and they are under the age of 17 years," says user, Fikri Awaluddin. Indonesia says RIM earns about 251 million (m) US dollars per year from the country's 3 million (m) BlackBerry users.
