The short vowels (light dot and light dash) can be remembered by repeating the sentence "That pen is not much good". i.e word that giving sound a, pen - e, is - i, not - o, much - u, good - oo. Always practice Pitman Shorthand with pencil and make the thin strokes, light vowel signs LIGHT and thick strokes, dark vowel signs DARK.
